About this trip
The Andaman coast is where Thailand looks like the photographs. Krabi puts you directly underneath the limestone, with resorts tucked into bays that are only really reachable by boat.
The private longtail day is the centrepiece and the reason this itinerary works. Chartering your own boat costs surprisingly little between two, and leaving at seven rather than nine changes the entire character of the bays.
Two nights in Phuket at the end make the flight home easy and add a completely different kind of evening.

Arrive Krabi
Met at Krabi airport and driven to the resort, around forty minutes. The karsts start appearing about halfway. Check in and take the evening slowly.

The private longtail day
Out at seven with your own boat and captain. The famous bays, the lagoons and a beach for lunch — all reached an hour or more before the tour fleet arrives. Back by mid-afternoon.

Nothing scheduled
An open day. Rock climbing on the limestone if you want it, kayaking through the mangroves, or the pool and the beach.

A 90-minute Thai massage for two in an open-sided sala in the afternoon. At sunset, a table set on the beach after the day boats have gone.

Across to Phuket
A two-and-a-half-hour land transfer around the bay. Check in, then the afternoon by the pool. Phuket has a different energy — busier, better for dinner.

Old town, and eating your way through it
A guided evening food walk through the Sino-Portuguese old town — hawker stalls, a coffee shop that has been there sixty years, and dessert at the end of it.

Important information
- Prices are per couple on twin sharing and are indicative — final pricing is confirmed against live availability for your dates.
- Peak periods (Christmas, New Year and long weekends) carry a mandatory gala dinner supplement set by the property.
- Hotels listed are the properties we normally book. If one is unavailable we substitute a comparable alternative and tell you before you pay.
- Standard check-in is 2pm and checkout is 11am. Early check-in and late checkout are requested but never guaranteed.
- Carry a valid photo ID for every traveller. International trips need a passport valid for at least six months beyond your return date.
- The longtail charter is weather-dependent. If the marine department closes the bays we move the day or refund the charter in full.
- Some island national parks close between mid-May and mid-October. Your itinerary is adjusted automatically for those dates.
- Temples require shoulders and knees covered for both travellers.
Questions about this trip
Why charter a private boat instead of joining a tour?
Timing. A private longtail leaves when you want, which in practice means reaching the famous bays an hour before the tour fleet. Split between two it costs less than most couples expect.
Krabi or Phuket as the main base?
Krabi for scenery and quiet — it is the more beautiful of the two by some distance. Phuket earns its two nights for the food and the easy flight home.
When is the Andaman coast at its best?
November to April. From May the monsoon turns and the Gulf islands — Koh Samui and Koh Tao — become the better choice.

Before you go
Best time to visit Thailand
November to March. The Andaman side is dry and flat-calm from November to April. When it turns, the Gulf islands take over from roughly February to September, so the country is in season year-round if you pick the right coast.
